Why “Sunday Resets” Haven’t Worked for Me

I see a lot about the most efficient way to plan your week. But the week breezes by and before you know it, Sunday rolls around the corner.

Sunday’s meaning is different for everyone. But, increasingly, there has been a growing culture of the “Sunday Reset”.

On my social media feed, I constantly see influencers posting their Sunday routine – dedicated to planning and preparing for the whole week ahead. They set their goals, write their to-do lists, meal prep, and organize their entire life. All in one Sunday.

It looked productive. It looked aesthetic. It looked like exactly what I needed.

Let’s just say – I was influenced.

So I Tried It

I sat down one Sunday and created a full plan for my week. I went to bed that night feeling like I had it together – I felt good. What could go wrong?

Monday, that’s what.

Reality Check

Monday morning came and I looked at my list, and immediately felt overwhelmed. I was supposed to feel motivated – what was wrong with me? I ended up getting nothing done, and told myself I would start tomorrow. Tuesday passed. Wednesday passed. By Thursday, I had barely crossed anything off, and the week was almost over, so what was the point in trying to get anything done?

The week got the best of me. I told myself I would reset again on Sunday.

Now, it was the next Sunday, and my list had doubled. And the cycle started again.

My New Mindset in Practice

Since the “Sunday Reset” didn’t work for me, I tried forming my own version of it. Instead, I started practicing an “Everyday Reset”.

I sat down at the start of each day, and for 5 minutes I wrote down everything I needed to get done just for that day. It almost sounded too simple. But that small list is what made it manageable. It didn’t feel intimidating. It felt tackleable.

This “Daily Reset” worked for me because of its incremental nature. It allowed for momentum to build up and provided me with new opportunities everyday.

It also gave me the confidence I needed to tackle my to-dos. If I wasn’t productive one day, normally I would have given up for the whole week and waited till Sunday. But now, I start fresh every morning.

Final Thought

The Sunday Reset works for some people. And if it works for you, keep doing it! But, if you find yourself in the same negative cycle as me – I encourage you to try a new method. Just because popular trends say one thing, doesn’t mean that is the only method available.

Find your pattern, build your routine, and make it yours!

For me, that means everyday, not solely Sunday.

Want to Build a Business That Executes?

Company quarterly plans, budgets, and productivity goals all look great in the boardroom. But putting those into practice is where it gets hard.

At Dancey Growth Group, we help businesses turn big goals into daily action – because the plans written on Sunday might not always make it to Friday.
